Steel News In The Middle East

World crude steel production stood at an estimated 81.2 million metric tons in November 2003.
Global production increased by 6.7% compared to November 2002,
and by 6.9% till end November 2003 (Year To Date), compared to last years first 11 months.

In the Middle East,
Iran produced about 685,000 metric tons of crude steel in November, and a total of 7.400.000 for the YTD.
This is 10.7% higher than for the same period last year.

Saudi produced 246.000 metric tons in November, and a total of 3.609.000 tons for the YTD,
so 11.9% higher than for the same period last year.

Turkey is the largest producer in the region with 1.441.000 tons
and reaches 16.628.000 tons YTD, or an increase of 11%.

Algeria with 76.000t reaches 977.000t YTD
Egypt  with 330.000t reaches 3994.332t YTD
Libya   with 69.000t reaches 919.444t YTD
Tunisia with 5.000t reaches 80.647t YTD
Qatar   with 85.000t reaches 968.902t YTD
   
Overall, YTD production in the Middle East region is up 10.5%.


The C.I.S. produced 8.8 mmt of crude steel in November.

The largest increase came as expected from China.
Chinese production of crude steel rose to 20.5 mmt in November.
YTD production in China is now 200.2 million tons, compared to 164.8 million tons for last years’ comparable period.
