PITTING RESISTANCE EQUIVALENT NUMBER
(For Nickel-based Corrosion Resistant Alloys)

The pitting and crevice corrosion resistance of a nickel-based corrosion resistant alloy (e.g. Incoloy 825, Inconel G-3, 622, 625, 686 and C-276) is primarily a function of the steel composition, with chromium, molybdenum tungsten and niobium playing the major roles. The Pitting Resistance Equivalence number (PREn) is an index used to rank the resistance of individual steels to pitting and crevice corrosion.
