PITTING RESISTANCE EQUIVALENT NUMBER

The pitting and crevice corrosion resistance of a steel is primarily a function of the steel composition, with chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen playing the major roles. The Pitting Resistance Equivalence number (PREn) is an index used to rank the resistance of individual steels to pitting and crevice corrosion.
