CARBON EQUIVALENT NUMBER (Low Alloy Steels)

Just as there is a Carbon Equivalent (CEQ) calculation for carbon steels, there is also one for low alloy steels, generally with carbon <=0.17%, typical of microalloyed linepipe steels. The method used to calculate CEQ values for low alloy steels is the Ito-Bessyo Formula.  The carbon equivalent number for carbon steel indicates the weldability of the steel, with weldability issues possible for values greater than 0.26%.
