Danieli Endless Welding Rolling Segment Ordered by Sonasid
2004 June 29

Moroccan steelmaker Sonasid (Sociètè Nacionale de Sidérurgie) will install a Danieli Endless Welding Rolling (EWR) line at its 400,000-metric tons/year bar/section mill. The mill, also a Danieli installation, has been operating since July 2002 at Jorf Lasfar, Morocco.

The EWR line will start up in the spring of 2005.

EWR uses a welding segment after the reheat furnace to link bars in sequence, to establish continuous rolling. Sonasid will be the first African operation to achieve endless rolling. It will be the twelfth EWR unit Danieli has installed since 1997.

Danieli also is building a new 625,000-metric tons/year melt shop at Jorf Lasfar for Sonasid, to start up in mid 2005 and feed the bar and section mill.
