Introduction

Shipbuilding Industry is rapidly updated worldwide in light of fast growing economic globalization and international trading. Countries make all efforts to exploit ocean resources, leading to stable and high demand in the world ship-building market. In 2007, both new and current ship-building orders hit new highs, so did global ship plate consumption. We expect much higher demand for heavy plate in the coming years. Shipbuilding steel supply was heard tight, triggering expansion of Shipbuilding steel production at steel plants.

Market sources also notice that year 2008 could see big changes in international ship-building market as world ship-building center is moving toward the east, brewing an industrial structure reform and upgrade. Development of international ship-building industry calls for higher preciseness and standards for engineering techniques, and greater diversity of plate grades. It means both challenges and opportunities for ship steel producers. An interactive and co-developing relationship between steel and ship-building industries is necessary for a win-win strategic partnership.

Steel for Shipbuilding 2008 is an exclusive platform to share views on market prospects and regional developing strategies with leading steel and ship makers from Korea, EU, China, Japan, Russia, CIS, India, America, Brazil and Middle East, etc.
