The Turkish steel industry has been in a flux over the last couple of years as a result of the massive changes in the global steel markets and the negotiations on Turkey’s membership of the European Union. Re-structuring plans are being discussed by Turkish industry sources and the EU authorities to try to improve the balance between long and flat steel production in the country.

The slowdown in export markets for long products also reinforced changes in Turkey’s traditional steel production profile. Indeed, the coming years are likely to support new investment opportunities. Moreover as a producer with a large overseas presence, there is a need to understand how Turkey fits into both global and regional markets.

Program Outline

09:35 Welcome Address
09:40 Keynote Session: Turkish and global market trends
Several of Turkey’s key market players together with international experts will discuss the changes in the country’s pattern of production, exports and imports. Some Gulf countries with their lower annual rends and export markets of Turkeyconsumption and increasing domestic production capacities continue to replace imports with local supplies. Turkish producers are now seeking new opportunities globally, as well as looking to keep their market share in the Middle East. This initial session of the forum will set the scene for a Turkish steel market in flux.
